Josh- I have also used a heat gun with success for bending wood. On my Shooting Star, I used a heat gun to bend thin strips of ash to make a laminated cockpit rim. Ash bends easily, but the heat gun made the process a piece of cake. Good luck with your Shooting Star, it is a great boat.
