I have had good luck with my Delta 12 1/2" planer. I ripped my strips from WRC 2x6s. I cut the strips about 1/16" oversize then ran them through the planer to get each strip exactly 1/4". I found this saved a lot of effort sanding. I built a canoe before I purchased a planer and the uneven strip thickness took much longer to sand. After my tablesaw, I think the planer is my best purchase. It's a must if you consider any furniture/cabinet work.
