: JJ Don't worry too much about seeing tiny bits of glass dots. Just sand the
: surface smooth as possible starting with 80 grit and finish with 100 grit
: to even out the sanding grooves. Hand sand any little shiny spots of epoxy
: to dull the surface. What I do next is a little different than most. I
: take a tack free cloth, t shirt material, cheese cloth and wipe the last
: coat of epoxy on the hull. Get the epoxy nice and warm about 75 degrees.
: You can put a very nice film of epoxy on the hull and then sand with 220
: grit to get ready for varnish. This will allow you to cover the scratches
: and leave a very thin film that covers all the exposed glass. Let it
: harden for a week or more, finish final sanding and varnish. Regards,
: Erich.
If you sand further you will cut the glass weave and strength will be compromised.
Continue to knock down the high spots but stop anywhere you start to see the glass
weave. Then roll on TWO more coats of resin to ensure you have enough resin, so
the next sanding won't go back into the glass again.
The new coats of resin will be smoother since you've leveled the surface quite bit.
Give the resin a couple days to harden well, then start sanding with 120 grit go to
220 girt, then go over that by hand wet sanding with 220 and you will have a
glorious surface for your varnish.
Look up my varnish info in the archives.
