I generally glass the deck first and then cut out the cockpit and glue on the vertical pieces. Once they are all on, I glass the vertical structure inside and out with cloth wrapping underneath. On the top side, you can use threads of glass fibers pulled from cloth for strength. I then use the coaming risers (vertical pieces) as the actual form for building your lip should you use a spray skirt.
