: Does anyone have any experience with the Geodesic Aerolite Canoes? I am
: considering building a 14' Arrow design as a play boat for the warm
: weather months. The design/concept seem pretty neat, and the sub-20 pound
: weight seems just right for a quick after work paddle. I would like some
: feedback on how the design / building technique work before committing to
: the project, however. Thank you.
The Arrow is a good canoe. The ultra-light dacron skin is too fragile for my tastes. I'd build a skin on frame canoe as described in Robert Morris's book " Building Skin-On Frame boats " he suggests covering it with a much stronger nylon fabric. The finished weight of Morris's canoe in a 14' Canoe would be in the 30lb range , depending on the wood used.
