I'm not sure you know what you are asking. Typically, the shorter and more maneuverable a kayak is, the worse it tracks (goes straight). So on a large lake on a wavy day, you may have trouble reaching your destination without getting blown around. So short may not be the way to go.
But since you asked about short - Shearwater Boats recently introduced the Widgeon, a 14-foot kayak that can be built as a S&G or hybrid. It may suit your needs. I'm building one now, and will be about ten days until I finally get it in the water. Until then, I can't really comment on how maneuverable it is, but looking at the hull, it should be pretty good.
Good luck,
Ken
