: I have heard a lot about "Minicell Foam". I've done some research
: on the net and called around. I think I'll have to bite the bullet and
: just spend the money on it. But I got a quote on some close cell foam from
: a local industrial supplier. Price is really good about $45.00 for 1/2 x
: 42 x 72. The stuff is a Neoprene foam pt#SCE41B, SCE42B, SCE43B, and
: SCE45B. The ASTM-D-1058-67 Spec is SCE-41, SCE-42, SCE-43, SCE-45. I think
: it is Manufactured by Rahn Ind. How does this type foam compare to
: Minicell? Will it hold up? Color? Feel?
: Thanks

Mike, I use Minicell foam I get in 24x24x3 inch blocks. The tool of choice is a Lee Valley Kutzall tool to shape the seat. You mark out the area to be removed and use an old broken bandsaw piece to hollw out the main portion. Use the Kutzall tool and by hand scrape out the hollow seat. No power tool is required, you have full control of the cut and it takes the same amount of time as with a grinder. After you finish lightly scrape the tool across the finish at right angles to the last groves and it comes out like valour on a 65 Chevy seat. Works great and no worry about making a mess or destroying the foam. I have includes a link to Lee Valley with a picture of the tool. Regards, Erich.
