I started varnishing my Return with nearly 2 year old varnish (June 2000). I was not totally happy with the way the varnish was flowing after two coats and opened my second can (August 2001). I noticed that there was a significant discrepany in the fluid level between both cans ~ 0.75", with the new one nearly all the way up to the edge. I never opened either can. The newer varnish worked significantly better. Either I got lucky with my second can and got more varnish or some of the solvents evaporated over the nearly two years. Keep this in mind when you buy your varnish. Wait until you need it and don't buy it based on your expectation when you are done. I am nearly 1 year behind schedule, but it is getting now very close to the end.
