Red Elm ULmus rubra
Can anyone interpret this link about how good Red Elm would be for strip building as compared to Western Red Wood or other building woods we use for kayaks. As stringy and tough as it is when trying to split it for fire wood I thought it might be strong enough to use in 1/8" strips for stripping boats. I tried to get some from my local hardwood supplier so I could test it on a crude breaking machine using a workout station , but they don’t have any Elm in stock at this time.
