A Coho or 17' Tern seems like it may be a little larger boat than you need. I built a Coho for myself last winter as a 'play' boat. While it has been alot of fun, I recognize that the hull is much larger than my 5'11", 165lb body needs. You should also recognize that the Coho becomes more stable as its load increases - with a lightly loaded boat a little tender. That being said, it is nice to know that I can take 100 lbs of gear camping with me if I choose.

If I were to start over again I'd really consider one of the new 14' Tern models as a day boat. Fewer panels to join for more rapid construction, lighter weight to get on and off the roof, and an length that is easier to store and transport. Just a thought.
