You never came across to me as a hardwood snob. I hope I did not seem too resistant to your ideas.
My recollection is that the only delamination in the samples occurred on the compression side, and that it is was primarily due to buckling of the inner layers. I have not looked at the images lately, but I believe it was more pronounced in the cross-grain samples. Even then, delamination was confined to a small region near the buckled skin. Of course, regions that showed tensile failure of the glass were no longer bonded to the wood, but I don’t think delamination played a role there.
The issue of delamination was introduced to this string primarily in the context of impact damage. The small extent of delamination we observed in the bend samples was definitely not the type that has been well documented in impact studies. While I would expect delamination to occur as a result of impact on a typical cedar strip boat, I would not expect it to play the same role as in a solid laminate.
