What are reasons, if any, that would not allow a recessed deck tray and/or cup holder for pop or water bottle, directly in front of the coaming. The stripped deck Chesapeake 16 that I am working on has an 18" radius deck and has lots of room inside for a stripped deck tray recessed 2" and be maybe 4" by 10" box or curved bottom. This would be handy for a small tackle box or other items when lake paddling in calm conditions. I realize that it could easily fill with water, but you could just dump the water out when you're done. Have other builders installed such a glovebox? Are there safety/structural issues that I am not aware of? Any ideas or pictures would be greatly appreciated.
