I think I will pre-drill and epoxy-fill the screw hole that I am certain of, and after varnishing, attach the remaining few that I am still undecided about into pilot holes with caulking. Interesting thoughts on achieving built-in recessed fittings - maybe next time! Hey, I used to know a Mike Allen here in Vancouver BC - he's a fellow Architect - is that you by any chance?
