: What are reasons, if any, that would not allow a recessed deck tray and/or
: cup holder for pop or water bottle, directly in front of the coaming. The
: stripped deck Chesapeake 16 that I am working on has an 18" radius
: deck and has lots of room inside for a stripped deck tray recessed 2"
: and be maybe 4" by 10" box or curved bottom. This would be handy
: for a small tackle box or other items when lake paddling in calm
: conditions. I realize that it could easily fill with water, but you could
: just dump the water out when you're done. Have other builders installed
: such a glovebox? Are there safety/structural issues that I am not aware
: of? Any ideas or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

If you built a recess, you could put a fitting on the inside bottom for a small diameter hose and run the hose to another fitting/hole for draining just below the shear line (or anywhere lower). Could be an effective way to drain, but if hose ever came lose, you would end up with water in the cockpit.
