we bumped into ea other abt 1-2 yrs ago in gastown, now an electronic bump!
other ideas for next time:
in the remote chance one put on a rubstrip, i guess one could hide the screws under that and a dripslot below.
if the deck overlaps the hull, one could put 1in long slots in the deck 1/4 in from the edge and remove 1 in of the sheer strip below, screw to the sheerclamp and then reafix the piece removed, leaving a little drip. could design in for decorative sheerstrips
another idea might be to dish into the deck and screw the webbing in the ctr leaving a tight loop each side of the screw, so that the gunwale lines use the outside loops and the deck lines, hatchlines or paddle harness uses the inner loops. similar in concept to those double sided plastic fittings but in webbing.
another idea might be to get some of that climbing 3/4" tubular webbing, cut and sear 1" long pces and put the screw in the lower portion of the 'tube' therebye being totally concealed. thread thru the tubes. i wonder if you could spread the fibres, then you could make the fitting the lines and hide the attachments.
may be a little careful of the sealant if its silicone. contaminates the surface somewhat and makes varnishing (or any other epoxying) more difficult. i wonder if there are any clear urethane sealants?
i'll drop you a line.
