: I have glassed both the hull and deck of my Guillemot-L and I'm just about
: ready to put them together. After the hull was glassed, I tried a test fit
: of the deck and found the hull had flexed out and was an inch or two wider
: than the deck. The deck had just come off the forms so I know the problem
: was the hull. The inside of the hull had only been glassed for a two days,
: so I thought I could squeeze it into the proper shape and hold it with
: reinforced tape until the deck was ready. I inspected the hull and saw
: what appear to be white cracks along the chine caused by the pressure of
: squeezing the hull sides into shape. The cracks run about three feet long
: and appear at the same location on each side. I think I can get the hull
: and deck mated and then go in through the cockpit and put an additional
: layer of glass over the cracks or a fillet of thickened epoxy. The outside
: looks ok. Does this sound like a reasonable fix? I don't think there are
: many other options, but I'd like to hear anyone's advice.

: Also, I had some air bubbles. I filled some using a syringe, but there are
: spots along the edge of the hull where the cloth didn't lay flat. Should I
: cut and sand them out and put on another layer?

: Thanks for any assistance. Regards, Scott

As you've learned if your deck and hull are more than a inch different in width and you try to
mate them, the stress in the glass will go somewhere. More often people try to do this and the stress
doesn't show up til the first day the boat sits in a hot sun.

I'd say you are lucky. Stop right now and sand off the glass right where you see the white stressed
glass. This is telling you where the stress is focused. If you sand off a couple inched of glass on each
side the hull will flex to the width you need it to be . Then fix it in place with scrape strips and apply
a glass patch over the area extending a copule inches onto the old glass for strength. Then you will be
able to mate the deck and hull without fear of further damage.

Hey people, measure those decks and hulls BEFORE you apply the inside glass and set the widths.

Good luck!

Rob
