My coamings are usually 1' from the deck to the top surface of the coaming. The lip is 1'4" thick
So this leaves a space under the lip of 3/4". The vertical surface of my coaming from the deck up
is 1/4" thick and the lip extends 5/8" out from that. So looking down at the top surface of my coamings
the surface is 7/8" wide.
