: Instructions (book) call to locate the forms in relation to the outside of
: the completed boat. How do you know how far the strips will extend beyond
: the point of the end form to determine where the form placement should be
: (i.e. where to start measuring from or how much to substract from the
: distance if measuring from the point of the end form)? I am sure its there
: and I just missing it, but would appreciate someone clearing it up for me.

most designs put forms on something like 12 in ctrs from the ctr of the yak. mark the ctr pt on the strongback/box and mark the form locations out from there. as yaks usually get thinner toward the ends the farthest face of ea form should be on this line so that the strips touch the farthest edge.

very simply from the ctr, if 12in spacing and 1/2in forms, the first face of the form is on 11 1/2in, but the reference face will be on the 12in line from the ctr.

this is just an approximation of what a design does, but it is a consistent way to lay it all out and not get too far adrift. usually the ctr form puts the face towards the bow on the ctrline.

boats that have nonsymmetrical form(swede or fish), or reflex curvature will break these rules, and the forms will be placed quite differently and not consistently, but i'm guessing that's not the case here.
