Strip: How much filling should I be doing?

I have my Cape Ann all stripped and have sanded it fair. I'm just at the point of using the ROS with a 120 grit to final smooth the boat before glassing. The problem is that I keep opening up thess small openings between the strips that I have to go back and fill. When I say small, what I mean is about the thickness of a piece of notbook paper or thinner and an inch or two long.

Am I just being anal about going back to fill those? It seems that once I fill them and then sand them out and I find another to fill.

The boat looks nice as it is and I don't want to sand it down to a pile of sawdust just to get all these things. There are no large staple holes left or any major gaps between the strips, just these little tiny things.
