I have been lurking, and very infrequently posting, on this board for at least 2 years. I have plans from Nick for a Guillemot Expedition Single (actually, I purchased a license for 2 boats) and have been sitting on them for nearly as long. I have finally decided it is time to launch headlong into the construction phase. I will be posting pics to a web page showing my progress and I hope to be able to use all of your vast amounts of knowledge and experience to help me clear any hurdles I come up to. The idea behind the title "Kayak-as-Therapy" is to try to work my way out of my frequent bouts of depression that I suffer from.
I have had the good fortune of a neighbor who owns riverside property on the Grays River (20 miles from Astoria, Oregon and 100 miles NW of Portland,Oregon and within spittin' distance of some outstanding paddling on the Lower Columbia River and in Willapa Bay) in South West Washington. Our lovely little river morphs into a raging flood on a regular basis, spitting out chunks of ancient Western Red Cedar that come to rest on his beach. Some he cuts up for shingles(!), some for fenceposts(!!) and some for firewood(!!!!). Finally we took some of his driftwood to another neighbor that runs a little sawmill, and he gave me the wood I needed for my 'yak. I would like to have some Sitka Spruce strips for accent, But I don't think we'll have any more floods this year. Guess I'll have to buy some wood.
Anyway, check out my Pics at:
