Good luck with the construction. You're lucky to have such a great source of wood. Is this deadfall that gets washed out, or cut logs that got away from the timber companies? The best I can hope for here in Ontario is to use some of the cherry from my backyard pruning for some small accents. Otherwise its off to the lumberyard for me.
: I have been lurking, and very infrequently posting, on this board for at
: least 2 years. I have plans from Nick for a Guillemot Expedition Single
: (actually, I purchased a license for 2 boats) and have been sitting on
: them for nearly as long. I have finally decided it is time to launch
: headlong into the construction phase. I will be posting pics to a web page
: showing my progress and I hope to be able to use all of your vast amounts
: of knowledge and experience to help me clear any hurdles I come up to. The
: idea behind the title "Kayak-as-Therapy" is to try to work my
: way out of my frequent bouts of depression that I suffer from.
: I have had the good fortune of a neighbor who owns riverside property on the
: Grays River (20 miles from Astoria, Oregon and 100 miles NW of
: Portland,Oregon and within spittin' distance of some outstanding paddling
: on the Lower Columbia River and in Willapa Bay) in South West Washington.
: Our lovely little river morphs into a raging flood on a regular basis,
: spitting out chunks of ancient Western Red Cedar that come to rest on his
: beach. Some he cuts up for shingles(!), some for fenceposts(!!) and some
: for firewood(!!!!). Finally we took some of his driftwood to another
: neighbor that runs a little sawmill, and he gave me the wood I needed for
: my 'yak. I would like to have some Sitka Spruce strips for accent, But I
: don't think we'll have any more floods this year. Guess I'll have to buy
: some wood.
: Anyway, check out my Pics at:
