Ohhh.... suddenly a post from a month or so ago makes a whole lot more sense. No the end pieces are not ment to be a fancy feature. I'm glad at least two people wondered about it though, I thought they kinda clashed with the pattern, so I guess this is another case of it looks better than I thought it would.

I'm building a hybrid, and could not figure out an easy way to put in an inner stem, or end station. So I build up a 'deck end' to receive the ends of the strips. It worked pretty well, although I'd make the lip longer next time so I could fair the shape of the boards in better. take a look at the stern in the pictures of the previous post, you'll see that the profile is very un-fair at the point where the strips meet the deck end.
