My brother found a source for 3/16" kevlar core polyester braid on a djembe drum building website.

About $150 for 1000 ft, or 0.15/ft. Solid black, or black with red, yellow and green rasta tracers!

I like 1/4", since it's easier to grab, but I don't know of any suppliers for solid black.
