I can comment on Rob Mack’s box beam strong back. He makes two 6 inch square x 8 foot long boxes that are built of ½" plywood with a 4 foot long box beam that slides inside the middle of the 8 footers to make an adjustable length strongback. Mine is very strong and straight. I pick mine up from the end and like a long wheel bar I take it outside to work on. The two heavy saw horses are fixed to the beam so the whole unit is pretty heavy. When I lift one end and sight down the length I can’t see any change or distortion in the straightness of the beam from the leverage pressure I put on this beam.
