: Might be differing degrees of oxidation - more for the darker exposed wood,

Hi Ken,
I think your right its just a couple of very light bands around the kayak, doesnt show much now and I am hoping that during the rest of this month they will fade out on their own before I start epoxying.
: I'll be interested to hear how this works out for you, because I have one
: strip that is lying low (off-center cove, I think), and I thought I'd just
: glue on a thin matching strip onto the surface, then plane & sand
: fair. But I am worried about how the glue surface will behave at the
: feathered ends of the "over-strip". The cabinet scraper worked
: well on the glue joint at my scarph joints, so maybe thats the ticket here
: as well.
Ah well I can help you there!!
I think Jay is right if you glue on with epoxy you will be OK. This isnt an option for me as I already made the mistake of using carpenters glue. Jay says try to fake it, well I get better at faking things by the year, but glue stains are glue stains and thats that! What I did try to do was to reduce the size of them by sanding the wedge shaped overstrips (I had some shallow spots right where the strips come against the keel strip at the stern) down along with the rest of the stern until I reached an area where the angle of feather was deeper this would leave me with more of a glue line than a horrible SMUDGE. In reality I ended up sanding so much off the stern I almost sanded out the overstrips and the whole thing looks much better, I am suprised I havent gone through the boat.
