I have a suburban with Thule racks. While driving around town last fall in Chicago, I pulled up to a stop light and proceeded to make a right turn. The wind was blowing hard, and as I made the turn the wind caught the kayaks broadside and slid the crossbars right out of their supports. After that bit of excitement and the realization that nothing but friction of the supports to hold it on laterally. I ended up drilling a hole through the uprights and crossbars and locking both in place with a lynch pin. No further problems thus far...
