Building them of strips, then, instead of dugouts?

: Indian reservation). After having visited with Bill Monette, the high
: school shop teacher, I came away feeling that canoe building is about 95%
: of the shop program at this school (the other 5% being comprised of the
: obligatory chess boards and cutting boards). This is all understandable as
: the Makah have a rich history of whaling and canoeing - this program is
: one way in which they are attempting to instill and retain some of this
: heritage in their younger members.
