I'd like to build an Arctic Tern 14. I'm in Savannah, GA with Tybee Island close by (for surfing a Kayak?); mostly I'd be in the marsh and along the coastal waterways. Will my 5'10" 185 lbs. body and stocky legs fit into the Tern 14? Has anyone put hatches and bulkheads in a Tern 14 and actually carried a tent and food? Thanks, JN

Some longer kayaks have a waterline length that is 14' or shorter due to
: overhanging ends. I have found that a 14' long kayak with a waterline
: length close to the overall length ( actually 13'9" ) is every bit as
: fast for cruising and tracks just as well as a longer kayak - it all
: depends on design of course. Due to the shorter length you save weight so
: as Lee says it makes it easier to toss it up on the roof rack of your
: vehicle.
