This same topic was raised a couple of years ago (maybe three or four years ago or more) in this forum, you might want to check the archive.

From memory, the major problem is that of reflection on the glass or perspex or whatever. I think a sheet of clear material was succesfully placed in a hull but it was hard to see anything except a reflection of yourself. Think of it like trying to look through a window at night, you can't see a thing unless you get real close and sheild your eyes and the glass from all the light coming from behind you. I can't remmember if this problem was overcome.
