: My neighbor cut down a large oak and I now own a 5' long x 18" diameter
: chunk of the trunk. I figure that it should provide me with enough rib
: stock to last a lifetime, IF I can figure out how to reduce it to usable
: size pieces. I'm planning to call a couple of local sawyers, but getting
: it to them could be a problem, as the log weighs at least 400 pounds. I
: have a utility trailer, but getting the log onto it is not going to be
: fun. Any suggestions?

You can spit that on site -- lots of sweat.
You can get one of those log builting tools from Lee Valley and move the log without throwing out your back.
Good luck.
