Good point about using the rip fence, if you have one.
Depending on how good the rip fence is for the circular saw this should work fairly well. As the board gets narrower, you can shove another piece of stock along side it to support the wide base of the saw. When the board gets to be rather thin -- somewhere around about an inch wide -- it becomes more of a challenge to rip. Harder to hold, prone to twisting, etc. You might as well leave it alone and start on another board. This may mean that you need to buy an extra board or two to get the required number of strips, but that is small change compared to the big bucks of buying a table saw.
