Yes it is for clamping of the joint. I do not have the luxury of a bench long enough so did all my work on horses. I put the jig on a horse and used the clamp (convex 2x4) for glueing. Need to mark the parts to line them up after you get glue on, any overlap will make an over thick joint and vice versa.
