During the building of the Guillemot-L, I fitted my Arctic Tern with fore and aft hatches. The Arctic Tern handles a lot different than the Guillemot. It tracks very straight, but feels kind of unstable (its named Tippy), although the secondary stability is pretty good. I read many of the comments about the Guillemot being a loose handling boat and found it to be true. However, its probably better to just say that it is more manuverable. I have come to like its handling and I do not plan to add a skeg or anything to it. Its a great boat. It is also very stable. I sometimes fish from it in the Lynnhaven River or the Chesapeake Bay and have never come close to going over. It's so stable that last week, while attempting to exit without the boat securely on the beach, I drifted back out with a pretty strong current and discovered that I can stand up in the boat. I got back in without going over.
