: Does redwood need to be treated with any solvent before epoxying?

Hi Dave

Redwood does have an acidic(?) quality to it, but about the only problems you ever have with that is that when it gets soaked with water, you get some pretty dark/black stains from it and it will turn water black. And as Paul says, it's no fun to breath, taste, get in your eye and to some it can be a skin irritant. And contrary to popular belief, it's not all that good for the soil in your garden or flowerbeds.

It doesn't have the oily qualities that you worry about with some of the hardwoods. Makes some really nice boats!!! My canoe buddy, David Barrett, here local uses it exclusively in his boats and they really look great!! Beautiful dark rehdish-brown.

Epoxying shouldn't be a problem and as with WRC, it warms up in color quite a bit when wet-out.
