Have you also looked into the manufacturers of Cross Country skiing pole equipment? I can't think of any manufacturers off the top of my head - it's been a few years, but shafts are often made of what seems to be a CF/Kevlar mix. They are very stiff and undergo lots of torsional (I would imagine) as well as compression stresses.
I doubt you'll find out what materials they're using by just browsing their websites, an email to them directly would probably suit you best.
