I have only done one yak with this stuff, but have done a lot of test swatches. You can probably get away with 3 coats, but I did 5 or 6. I could put a few on in one day with the stuff I used. It doesn't gain much tear strength with each coat, just adds more to abrade away. The weave on mine never went completely away, but the surface texture did gain some brush marks from the various coats.
