: GOOD NEWS: I just tested 2 patches of 8 oz. nylon with Heat n Bond tape from
: Walmart. I'm impressed with the ease of application, and could not pull
: the two patches apart after gluing them this way. They'll clearly do the
: job from the standpoint of resisting pulling apart that way.

: BAD NEWS: I can peel the two peices apart, with only moderate pressure. They
: resist pulling, but not peeling.

Yes, the H&B will peel like this, however, I've never experienced a problem with it. Also make sure you are using the ULTRA type tape. Admittedly, the only place that I have glued two pieces of fabric together is a couple of short seams on a deck. Still, if you make the seam wide enough, you should be robust against a major failure. If some minor peeling did occur, then you could just iron it together again. Some people might feel a little squeemish about doing something like that on a hull, though.

You can see one of the short seams next to the cockpit in the picture. Another matching one is on the opposite side. I ran out of cloth and needed to glue some scraps together to cover the deck. This was 9 oz poly from Dyson.

... I guess this means I'm not worried about the way I peel :-)
