I've pretty much decided to build a strip-built kayak this winter. I've read Nick Schade's book and have been lurking on this and other websites for the last year.

I'm leaning strongly towards building either the Night Heron or the Outer Island. I'm writing to ask about comparison of the two boats, both ease of construction and characteristics of the final product (assuming I do a good job building it :-)). This will be my first boat. I've been paddling for about 10 years in an old Necky Arluk III (which I love) but I want a smaller, narrower boat, something that will be more fun, more responsive in waves and interesting conditions.
