Hi Rick,

It kind of depends on the boat. When I built my Outer Island I used strips as small as 3/8" wide at the shear so they would wrap thightly around to the top of the deck better. For the most part I use 5/4 deck boards and split my stips down the middle so I don't waste material. I can tell you that the difference between using 3/4" vice @ 1/2" wide as far as time was none. Of the four strippers I have built they all took within a couple hours of 250. I personally think the wider they are the less eye appealing they are.
