I just finished stripping with cypress that was rough cut. Tried to use some wide (1" - 1 1/4")just to see how it would work and found that it was difficult to make the curves and destroyed several strips trying. Ended up ripping it and it worked much better. I guess if the design you are using is flat you could use the wider strips, but I didn't try it on the "flat" sections, gave up on it b4 I got there.
