I had the same problem, and I was able to solve it by starting at the front with a small wedge, as you did, and then use short lengths going down both sides until I came to the area where the hole for the hatch coming goes around your back. I simply bridged both sides of the cockpit hole with one long piece. then I just marked a line where the piece of wood needed to be cut. I then worked my way back to the end of the hole spanning the cockpit hole with shorter strips until I hit the back. As you progress, you'll see the recess pieces naturally fill in the hole, and it should actually curve up towards the back of the cockpit hole.I bought a combination belt and disc sander from Home Depot, that has a deck that can be angled. This made making tight joints between the recess and the hole much easier. The same could be accomplished with a belt sander. : What is the best way to deal with the raised edge in the back of the coaming
: recess on a Guillemot. I have thought of a few, which involve using 2
: strips, but wondered if I am missing something. I can not figure how a
: solid piece could fit across with the raised edge. I almost took a
: "good enough" approach last night. I decided to wait and ask
: those who have been there.
