Here is a thread I kept on some other books.

Q. Are H. C. Peterson's books available from other sources other than directly from Greenland? If I recall correctly, the shipping charges were kind of high.

A. Greg Stamer: I have heard that they are available from sources in Denmark, but I don't have any information. I have had good luck ordering online from Atuagkat in Greenland (URL below). In some cases you may get an error message from their system, but in all cases that I have experienced, the order was sent correctly.

The Petersen "Instruction in Kayak Building" book costs only $15.00, and I don't recall shipping being very expensive. You could email Atuagkat at mail@atuagkat.gl to ask the exact rate. They speak excellent English and have been very helpful to me. I visited their store when I was in Nuuk last year and had an entire box of books sent home.

Also, Neriusaaq Bookstore in Greenland has the books: http://www.greenbooks.dk/books.htm.

A. I ordered both of Petersen's books "Instruction in Kayak Building" (~$15.00) and "Skin Boats of Greenland" (~$43.00). The last correspondence with them indicated that the total cost including shipping was ~$99.00, so the shipping is pretty steep. We'll see when the credit card bill comes in.

A. Greg Stamer: I checked my receipt from Atuagkat. Shipping (airmail) was a reasonable $11.84 (in 1999) for my copy of "Instruction in Kayak Building", which is a fairly small book. The order arrived within two weeks. "Skinboats of Greenland" is physically large, and no doubt added to your shipping costs. However you still got a bargain. I paid over $110.00 for my copy about ten years ago, not counting shipping! For those who have an interest in Greenland kayaks, paddles, and tools, I can't recommend "Skinboats of Greenland" enough. This is a beautiful book that keeps going in and out of print and is frequently very difficult to obtain.
