...is to coat the tips in epoxy. It works great, reduces splitting and it's easy to add more as it wears. I've done this on most of my paddles. I usually laminate a few thin strips of 'glass or Dynel to the edge of the tip as well. If you want the traditional bone-tip appearance, tint the epoxy white after the first coat.
