: In the current issue of Sea Kayaker there is an article on deck rigging. In
: this article the mention using whipping twine for tying deck lines and
: bungee cords. Well I have tied the whipping with half hitches but do not
: know how to end these knots. Should I coat this with epoxy, varnish or
: fingernail polish to keep the hitches from untying?

You can do a whipping using a series of half hitches, one under and one over. Finish it off by using a heavy bodkin (or sailmakers needle)and running the loose ends back under the whipping and cut them off short. This style of whipping was known as a west country whipping and held very well. I use a polyester and burn the ends off with a soldering iron.
