Scott, I think my real contribution at CLC was getting thigh braces in the cockpits,,your knees/thighs won't get a grip without a thick chunk of minicell tapering down to the edge, a 1/2" piece will make it soft on your knees but your knees aren't where you want to contact your body weight and effort,,kneecaps complain, so for a deep kayak it might take a 3" thick piece tapered down if you don't have long legs or aren't tight in the cockpit. A piece of flat minicell will still allow your knees to rotate right into the opening as they follow the deck curve. If you checkout the Merganser the coaming recess is seperate from the deck configuration making for a better thigh brace fit.
