... the headroom in your attic sure looks low from that angle Scott :D I thought Rick said "somewhat similar"? Anyway, while we're on the topic, I've seen copies of famous kayaks twice: someone at R2K2 had a boat very similar to Joe Greenley's King and Pete Rudie's Guillemot is like the one on Nick's book cover.

In my opinion, the racing stripe design is generic enough so it doesn't shout "copy". Pete's boat is only partly re-finished in this picture but I really like it. Lots of boats have this type of design on them; I think Pete said his wasn't an exact copy either. I didn't care for the copy of the Greenley King.

You can't copy years of experience. The builder's own genius/ineptitude will always show through. I doubt it will be ineptitude in Rick's case. Go for it Rick, I surely wouldn't hesitate to do it.
