In Response To: stacked = clunky boat, width, and space (mike allen)

I don't know about youse guys but a lot of minimal coamings like those found on some British boats don't thrill me with the ability to trap fingers under them,,,Pax18,20 coaming width? for the same reason the Chesapeake 14 has a 17" wide coaming, it's what all the other boats have, sure makes for strange thigh bracing in the Paxs and a huge coaming for a small persons boat in the 14. That one got me,,what's the same coaming used for a 6'+ person in an 18' kayak doing in a 14' kayak for a 5' person. I'm still amazed that people are able to bend the 6mm coaming over the 10.5"radius Pax deck beam without breaking it.

Maybe you guys have evolved beyond plywood but I don't see the width of a plywood coaming ring as being much different than some glass boats.
