I found that having my belt sander plugged in and hanging from a bungie cord attached to the ceiling, is an awesome tool for making the strip ends the shape they need to be in order to match an existing strip. With 50 grit, it's one powerful tool. Indespensible in my mind.
Another idea that I've been toying with is cutting lines (rotozip) though existing strips for an accent, taping from underneath (duct tape), then using a syringe to add colored thickened epoxy into this line and smoothing it off flush (plastic squeegee). I've done a simple test, and it appears to be very strong. And you could do any color imaginable or just black or white. I'll take a photo of it when I get a chance. I don't know for sure if this would work or not, but I think it's worth a try.
