I don't know that I have heard of anyone locking a strip in place by using a heat gun to dry the strip...
The heat gun is very good at bending the strip to begin with, and this may work better than ironing or even steaming. Downside is that the heat gun will soften any glue (wood glue or epoxy) and things may become unstuck if you try to "dry" it in place.
Seems that it would be better for these thin strips to just clamp them in place for the day or two it takes them to dry, or use glue to "clamp" them. I have found it is cooling that "sets" the steam bent wood, not heating.
