I purchased a box of veneer samples from Certainly Wood. www.certainlywood.com I then added two coats of varnish to bring out the true colours and textures of the wood. Then I laid them out on the workbench as you see in the photo.

I decided on padouk, cherry and maple for the deck plates. The veneers should be arriving sometime this week.
